Funyak drift is an amazing journey deep into the heart of the world-renowned Mt Aspiring National Park. Get up-close with nature with a gentle paddle on glacier fed waters.

Combine wilderness jet boating with unique Funyak inflatable canoes for a fun way to explore the Dart River as well as hidden side streams, rock pools and dramatic chasms. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of this stunning area at your own pace as you float downstream, then enjoy a wilderness picnic lunch before heading past ‘Paradise’ and on to Glenorchy. Then travel a back-country route passing by locations used in movies to illustrate Middle Earth.


Top tip: Book well in advance to avoid disappointment. At peak times, we can be booked weeks in advance. Dart River trips are limited to protect both your experience and the environment.

Departs from the Queenstown Information Centre, corner Camp and Shotover Streets, Queenstown on our complimentary shuttle

Glenorchy – 8.45am check in  

From the Dart Visitor Centre, Mull Street, Glenorchy

Glenorchy return 7 hours

Pick ups and drop offs are provided on a scheduled transport circuit and pick up from most accommodation.  If you select your accommodation when booking online we will tell you the time and place to meet.  Allow 9 hours Queenstown return or 7 hours Glenorchy return 

  • Life jackets are mandatory and supplied along with optional spray jackets, wetsuits & booties and fleece tops.
  • Summer – Sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, Insect repellent, camera and warm outer layer recommended
  • Winter – Wear thermals and warm clothing plus hat, gloves, woollen socks, windproof jacket, sunglasses, insect repellant and camera.
  • Year round – Bring warm underwear or swimwear, a change of underwear and towel.  No experience required.



We strongly recommend you book well in advance to avoid disappointment, especially at peak times.  Our concession to operate in the National Park is limited to protect both your experience and the environment and frequently we will be booked out anything from a few days to a week in advance.

Minimum child height of 1 metre applies. Minimum age is 5 years old.  Children are 5 - 15 years of age.

Please note we are unable to carry pregnant women on our trips.

Our multi-talented Funyak Supervisor cannot only be found paddling canoes but also found sitting in a jet boat, bus or behind a computer.

Since starting in October 2013 as a jet boat driver Dave has done a U turn and taken over the position as head of bus and funyak guides putting years of international experience rafting to great effect.

Paul aka Maverick (Top Gun reference…) joined the team of jet boat drivers back in October 2011.

Often seen on any Dart brochures and videos, our poster boy is a popular one with the female passengers (usually of an older demographic). Raised on a Central Otago farm, he’s a sporty fella who enjoys biking, hiking, kayaking and building his house.
